In 2011, over 450 singers from almost all of Austria's provinces, Germany and Czech Republic took part in the "Feuer & Stimme" ("Fire & Voice") festival.

The choir festival began on Friday with an opening celebration on the market square in St. Michael, during which every choir was invited to introduce itself with their own, individual song. Each of the choir directors lit a torch on the Fire Stand, then the choir performed its piece. Afterwards, the evening came to a delightful conclusion, accompanied by music and song, at the Festsaal in St. Michael...

On Saturday, the choirs set out together to explore the wonderfully beautiful world of mountains and alpine pastures of the Lungau region. During the occasional refreshment stop at mountain huts along the way, choirs were more than happy to volunteer a song or two. At 3 and/or 8 p.m., concert performances began at St. Michael's parish church and Schloss Moosham.

Sunday was time for a festive parade on the market square. After a worship service and the official dismissal of the choirs, it was time to break for lunch. And the choirs, who still had some time to spare, sang a few more songs on different squares in town, much to the joy of locals and visitors alike.
